The Digital Magician

The stage show: digital magic for the whole room

Close-up magic is brilliant for a few people at a time. But sometimes you want the whole room watching the same impossible thing at once. That's what the stage show is for.

The Digital Magician brings screens, laptops and cameras up front, so every seat sees the detail, not just the front table. It works after dinner, as a feature at a conference, or as the moment that pulls a party together before the dancing starts.

Built for screens

A lot of stage magic gets lost past the third row. Small props, small gestures. Putting the action on screens fixes that. Cameras pick up what's happening and the big screen shows it to everyone, so the people at the back are as close as the people at the front.

But the screens aren't only there to make things bigger. In a tech act they're part of the magic. Something might appear on a screen that nobody touched, or a prediction could have been sitting there in plain view all along. You'll have to watch closely. It probably won't help.

Getting guests involved

The show leans on volunteers from the audience, and quite often their phones too. That's where the biggest laughs come from. A colleague up front, holding their own phone, while something happens to it that they can't explain. The room watches it happen to someone they know, which lands far harder than watching a stranger. And because it's all up on the screens, the back tables feel just as involved as the person holding the phone.

Nobody gets dragged up who doesn't want to be. The Digital Magician reads the room, and there are always people keen to have a go.

What we'll need from you

Every venue is different, so we'll talk it through properly before the day. As a rough guide, the stage show needs:

  • A performance area that the whole room can see
  • Power close to that area
  • Screens or a projector, or a chat with your AV team about using theirs
  • A clear slot in the running order, ideally once food's finished and before the band or DJ

Working with your AV team

If you've already got an AV company booked, great. We'll speak to them directly so you don't end up translating technical questions back and forth. If you haven't, tell us about the venue and we'll work out together what's needed and who's providing it. The FAQ page covers a bit more of the practical side.

It also helps to share the venue's floor plan and the timings for any room turnaround, so we can plan set-up around everything else that's happening on the day.

Where the stage show fits

After dinner is the classic spot. Plates cleared, coffee out, everyone sitting down and facing roughly the same way. It also works as a break between conference sessions, a lift halfway through an awards night, or the centrepiece at a big private party.

Plenty of planners book it with close-up tech magic earlier in the evening. Guests meet The Digital Magician up close during drinks, then see the full show later. Thanks to the mask, nobody's quite sure what to expect either time.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How long is the stage show?

We'll agree the length with you to fit your running order. Tell us the slot you've got and we'll shape the show around it.

Do we need our own screens?

Not necessarily. Send us the details of your venue and any AV that's booked, and we'll work out what's needed and who's providing it.

Does it suit a seated dinner?

Yes, that's the classic after-dinner set-up. Guests stay at their tables and watch the detail on the screens.

Can the show include our company branding?

It can. Bespoke touches are something we'll talk through for your event, and for a full reveal have a look at product launch magic.
