That's The Digital Magician. Nobody knows who they are, and they perform with phones, iPads, laptops, cameras and screens. Here's how that fits into an Edinburgh event, from a three-day congress to a wedding in East Lothian.
The Exchange District and the EICC
The EICC sits in the middle of the Exchange District, surrounded by the offices of banks, pension funds and asset managers. It's where most of the city's big conferences happen. Plenty of those firms run their own client events in the hotels nearby, too.
Think about the moments when delegates aren't in sessions: the welcome reception, the exhibition breaks, the gala dinner. That's when close-up magic gets people mixing. International guests don't need much English to enjoy something strange happening on a screen in their hand, either.
For sponsors with a stand in the exhibition area, it's also a handy way to pull people over between sessions.
Dinners on George Street
The Assembly Rooms on George Street has been hosting grand dinners for a very long time, and it still puts on corporate dinners and award ceremonies today. A room like that suits an after-dinner show, with the magic played out on screens so the whole hall can follow.
The contrast is part of the fun. Chandeliers and Georgian plasterwork overhead, and a masked figure making a laptop do things it really shouldn't.
Something a bit different at Holyrood
Dynamic Earth, down by the Scottish Parliament, is a science centre that also hires out its spaces for corporate events. A modern, tech-led act feels at home there. The planetarium and exhibition spaces make an unusual backdrop for a drinks reception.
If you're launching something in that kind of setting, or anywhere else in the city, we can map out a bespoke reveal around your brand. Tell us about the product first and we'll suggest a few directions.
Weddings, parties and festival season
Edinburgh is a big wedding city, and we book The Digital Magician for receptions and private parties across Lothian and the Borders. Couples often book the close-up for the drinks reception while the photos are being taken. Our weddings page has more on how that works.
August is hectic here for obvious reasons, so if your event falls during the Festival, enquire early. Hotels, transport and performers all get booked up fast that month.
Otherwise, just send us the date, the venue and a rough headcount.
