The act performs hidden behind a digital mask, using phones, iPads, laptops and cameras. This is roughly how it could work at a Bristol event, plus a few tips we've picked up from organisers in the city.
Big days out at Ashton Gate
Ashton Gate Stadium in Bedminster is one of the largest conference and event venues in the South West, used for everything from exhibitions to Christmas parties for several hundred people. It's also home to Bristol City and Bristol Bears, so lots of companies already know it from match day hospitality.
With a crowd that size, you'd normally pair roaming magic during the reception with a show on the big screens after dinner. The close-up gets small groups chatting as they arrive. The show then pulls the whole room together for ten minutes of shared disbelief. There's more about that on the stage show page.
Smaller and smarter in the centre
For board dinners, client evenings and team celebrations, the Bristol Marriott Royal on College Green is a long-standing choice, and its Palm Court gets booked for plenty of corporate dinners.
These are the events where close-up shines. Small groups, drinks in hand, and suddenly someone's photo has changed on their own phone. No stage, no microphone, no need to clear any space.
Each guest goes home with their own story about what happened to their device, which is half the appeal.
A few planning tips
Book early for December. Bristol's party season fills up quickly and so does our diary.
Tell us about the room when you enquire. Whether there's a screen, and whether it's a standing reception or a seated dinner, helps us suggest close-up, a show or a mix of both. Rough numbers help as well, even if they're likely to change.
And if there's a product or message you'd like front and centre, ask about bespoke reveals. Agencies in particular like the idea of a client's logo popping up somewhere it has no business being.
Weddings and parties
We also book The Digital Magician for weddings in Bristol and Bath and for private parties right across the West Country. It's a good fit for couples who'd like something more modern than a card trick at the drinks reception.
Drop us a line with your date to find out if they're free.
